Denise Fox (played by Diane Parish) revealed to Cora (Ann Mitchell) that Max (Jake Wood) was back in Walford, leaving her visibly shocked.
The two women crossed paths after Cora spotted Denise at the local food bank trying to get something to eat when she felt she could no longer cope.
After the two put aside their differences, Denise revealed that Max had returned to Albert Square a “changed man” but Cora was not buying it at all.
“Max is only out for himself. The sooner people realise that, the better. He’s rotten, inside and out,” Cora spat back.
Afterwards, it appeared that Cora was soon plotting her revenge on Max and planning to expose his true colours.
In recent episodes, Max was seen taking down his own brother Jack (Scott Maslen) in a bid to send him to jail.
It was revealed that he had orchestrated the attack on Charlie Cotton (Declan Bennett) in order to help him gain custody of his son Matthew.
A bloodied and bruised photo of Charlie was shown but it turned out that he had faked his injuries to help make the attack look convincing.
Jack was left panicked as he was questioned by the police and it turned out that Max was plotting further to seal his fate.
Since making his EastEnders comeback in the New Year, it appears that Max had put into motion his schemes to take revenge on others.
He has also taken the Queen Vic pub from the Carter family after they were engulfed in scandal.
EastEnders continues on BBC One on Monday at 8pm.
