This the heartwarming moment a young girl screamed with delight after learning Jodie Whittaker is the new Doctor Who .
US author Jenny Trout filmed her daughter’s delight as she watched the big reveal on Sunday before posting her reaction on Twitter.
In the clip, the young fan intently watches the television before she turns to the camera, smiles and shouts “the new doctor is a girl!”.
Since it was uploaded on social media , the tweet has gone viral with 18,000 retweets while 64,000 social media users have ‘liked it’.
Whittaker was confirmed on Sunday as the 13th actor to portray the Time Lord – and has made history by becoming the first female Doctor Who.
The BBC has faced a sexist backlash since the Broadchurch star was announced to replace Peter Capaldi with some bellowing their outrage on Twitter, even threatening to stop watching the programme.
One incensed Doctor Who fan tweeted: “Time LORD. I repeat the Doctor is a time LORD. Not a time LADY.”
Another Whovian posted: “Are you f**king kidding me you’ve ruined doctor who for me and my father in law. You might as well just cancelled the show.”
Some viewers even vowed to switch off. One wrote: “I’m not watching anymore.”
While a female fan tweeted: “Raging, ruined an amazing programme with a female doctor!”
But others slammed the “misogynist” reaction to Whittaker’s announcement with critics of the casting branded “sexist bigots”.
Richard Littler said: “To misogynists moaning about #Doctor13: You’re not the target audience. It’s aimed at children w/ grown-up minds, not the other way around.”
And another added: “For each sexist bigot threatening to not watch, there’ll be a young girl with a new hero they didn’t have before # GoodRiddance # Doctor13.”
