Man finds young boy's Christmas list – and is left devastated by his one wish

All over the world, children of all ages are putting pen to paper and painstakingly ensuring they use their best handwriting in letters to Father Christmas .

The majority of these will follow a reassuring formula: Happy children assuring Santa that they’ve been good, and could they please have X, Y and Z?

A small number of these letters, however, are a heartbreaking reminder that, for some, this is a difficult time of year.

Jay Banks recently encountered one such devastating note, penned by a boy no older than nine years-old.

A councilman-elect in New Orleans, Jay shared an image of the anonymous young lad’s Christmas wish list on the Angel Tree which provides gifts to children in need at a local school.

“This has to be one of the most frustrating things I have ever seen.”

So began Jay’s impassioned Facebook post.

The boy must about nine or ten

“We host an Angel Tree every year and I randomly selected this form.

“Put this in context, a 4th grade child has the opportunity to ask for what he wants for Christmas and this is what he asks for.

“A new bike, an Xbox, other toys or a multitude of other things would not have surprised nor alarmed me but for a 4th grader to ask for a happier life is heartwrenching.

“I don’t specifically remember much about the 4th grade but I do know I wasn’t wishing for a happier life.

“My thoughts are; what is this child going through; how many other children like him are going through the same things; how can I help; why did I have pull this one?”

The note quickly struck a chord and attracted a lot of attention.

Others were quick to offer the shoes the boy needed so badly.

As for the happier life, this, heartbreakingly, is a lot more difficult to resolve.
