Two siblings have hilariously recreated their childhood snaps to celebrate the ‘best thing’ to come from their parents’ 30-year marriage – namely, them!
Maria and Matt Warnes were stumped about what to get mum, Amanda, and dad, Frank, for their pearl wedding anniversary – but knew they wanted to make them laugh.
After being inspired by similar Internet posts, the pair set about recreating some of their cutest and funniest childhood photographs as adults.
They then displayed the old snaps and ‘updated’ versions alongside each other in a photo book.
Maria, 22, told MirrorOnline: “As Mum and Dad’s 30th wedding anniversary was coming up we asked them what they wanted, they told us not to worry about it.”
She continued: “We had seen posts around the internet about recreations of childhood photos before and always thought they were a great idea and really funny.
“As it was a big anniversary we felt that we could maybe do something that didn’t cost a lot of money but would make them laugh.
“We came up with the idea of making them a photo book with recreations of childhood photos in.”
Maria and Matt, 20, were both students living at home in Cambridgeshire at the time and had to sneakily set up their photo shoot without their parents realising.
“An evening when Mum and Dad were watching TV I snuck to one of the cupboards that had the albums with old photos in and took photos of ones I could find with both Matt and I in,” Maria said.
“About a week before we needed to get the album sent we both miraculously had a morning free. I set up my camera on a tripod with a timer set.”
She continued: “We didn’t have a lot of time though, so we spent a few hours rushing around the house looking in everyone’s wardrobes for the best matches for clothing used in the photos.
“Matt ended up wearing one of mum’s cardigans and was a bit worried he had stretched it. Luckily we found some clothes that were a pretty close match and Matt even got some more use out of his halloween Beetlejuice trousers.”
The designer and web developer created the photo book for the wedding anniversary in 2016, but shared them online on Friday and they have since received hundreds of reactions and shares.
Maria uploaded the photos with the caption: “My brother and I recreated our childhood photos for our parents’ 30th anniversary.
“We decided to make a photo album to commemorate the greatest thing that has come from their marriage —us, of course!”
Frank and Amanda were overjoyed with their surprise gift when their children finally presented to them.
Maria told Mirror.co.uk: “When we gave it to them they were completely surprised and were crying with laughter the whole way through the album.”
