Strictly Come Dancing: Gemma Atkinson brands Aljaz 'offensive' amid emotional meltdown

The 33-year-old former Emmerdale star revealed that she had a breakdown during rehearsals yesterday in a frank video which she shared with her 459,000 Instagram followers.

“Yesterday in rehearsal was my first meltdown day,” she admitted. “I’ve not done bad, I didn’t cry for 12 weeks.”

“I think meltdown is an understatement,” Aljaž, 27, chipped in.

Gemma Atkinson praised the Slovenian professional dancer in the clip’s caption, thanking him for his efforts to cheer her up, adding: “Even if his methods are sometimes a little offensive.”

The blonde beauty explained her comment in the video, revealing: “Yesterday I cried, which isn’t like me, but I was tired and emotional.

“I don’t know whether to be flattered or offended because to make me feel better, tell them where you took me,” she continued, turning expectantly to her partner.

“I took Gemma – because I kind of got to know her pretty well – I took her to an all you can eat Chinese buffet,” he giggled.

“He went, ‘Don’t worry, I’ve got something to cheer you up’, and I thought maybe a pep talk, maybe a stroll, some fresh air,” she exclaimed. “No, he went, ‘All you can eat food!’”

“And you know what? It worked,” the Strictly Come Dancing pro interrupted, as they both fell about laughing.

The duo will be hoping to impress the judges in Saturday night’s live semi-final as they tackle two dances in the hopes of making it through to the Strictly final to compete to lift the coveted Glitterball trophy.

Gemma and Aljaž will be performing the Tango to My Sharona by The Knack before taking to the dance floor to dance the romantic Rumba to Beneath Your Beautiful by Labrinth and Emeli Sande.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6.45pm on BBC One.
